ABOUT ME
From 2010-2015 I was a Doctoral researcher at the University of Birmingham and acquired my PhD under the supervision of Prof. Somak Raychaudhury. The topic of my Thesis was 'Radio properties of a complete sample of nearby groups of galaxies'. In specific, I performed the analysis of 26 groups of galaxies, all in our Local Universe, in dual radio 610/235 MHz observed by the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). My target was to characterize the population of radio-AGN in groups, identify new groups/new classes of groups, examine the star formation rate in groups and constraint the implications of AGN feedback.
Before my acceptance as a Doctoral researcher at the University of Birmingham I attended the postgraduate program ‘Physics and Technological Applications’ at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) where I acquired my Master’s Degree (MSc) and had the opportunity to obtain a solid background in mathematical physics by studying in depth Quantum Mechanics, Electrodynamics (Jackson) and Statistical Physics which were the essential tools that helped me follow the scientific progress.
At the University of Birmingham, I was actively involved in teaching and was also part of the outreach team. Aside from my Phd project work, I had been a demonstrator at the Year 2 Data Acquisition Physics Laboratory for three years (during the first semester) and supervisor of the Year 2 Physics Laboratory projects (during the second semester). Through teaching, I have gained communication skills and experience in transferring knowledge to the students.
My passion for teaching, communication, and support of students rights can also be highlighted by my selection from the academic staff of the University of Birmingham as a postgraduate Representative in the Equality and Diversity committee where my role was to raise awareness for any kind of equality issues to the students.
